Mrs. Shelia Pinckney Blunt

Shelia Louise Pinckney Blunt was born on March 2, 1950, in Charleston, SC. She was the first-born daughter of the late Elijah Steven Pinckney and Annabell Murray Pinckney; the loving mother of two daughters, Yolanda Pinckney and Brooke Campbell; the doting grandmother of Taylor Pinckney and Nia Heyward; the protective sister of Madeline O’Farrow (Henry O’Farrow) and Vonda Pinckney; the caring aunt of Steven Pinckney (Anette Pinckney) and Jessica O’Farrow; and the proud grandaunt of Cayden Pinckney. She was educated in the Charleston County School System, where she attended Charles A. Brown High School and Charleston High School, from which she ultimately graduated. While at Charles A. Brown High School, she was a member of a social group who called themselves the Primettes, sisters to the Primes. This group included some of her closest friends who shared a love for life and laughter. Shelia loved to sing and dance with anyone willing to cut a rug with her. She enjoyed watching football on Sundays when her Dallas Cowboys were playing. She inherited her mother’s culinary gifts and was the true definition of a “girly girl.” Getting glammed and pampered were some of her favorite pastimes, along with shopping. She was also a women’s health and wellness champion and trailblazer. In the early 80s, she opened Women In Fitness, a Black female-owned fitness studio on Spring Street in downtown Charleston that brought women of all races and sizes together for a singular purpose. She also instructed a live morning workout segment on WPAL radio station, which gave her the opportunity to engage a larger audience and have a more expansive impact. On July 2, 2007, she married Oliver Blunt, with whom she shared her love and life until his call back to the earth on August 22, 2022. On February 28, 2026, Shelia peacefully accepted God’s call to a more abundant life in heaven, joining him, her mother and father, and many others who had been patiently awaiting her return. Mrs. Blunt, Ms. Shelia, Shelia, Girly Pop, and Mommy was a woman of small stature who walked with a dignity that seemed to expand far beyond her size. She will truly be missed by all who loved her dearly. She leaves to cherish her memory her daughters, siblings, grandchildren, niece and nephews, and all of her cousins in New York; aunts: Thelma Garrett (Frank), Helen Mitchell, Rev. Evelyn Roberts (Joseph), and Mary Jenkins (Clinton); bonus children: Nicole, Tanisha, Oliver Jr., Damon, Scott, Kenneth, and Miles; sister and brothers-in-law: John, Doris, Bernard, Christopher, Fred, Kenneth, Darryl, Michael, and Gerald. She also leaves a host of bonus grandchildren, nieces, and nephews who brought immense joy to her life. She was preceded in death by her husband and parents; her brother-in-law; aunts and uncles: Ethelle Lyons (Aarnard), Wilhelmina Peace (Calvin), Arthur Mitchell, and Earl Eugene Grant; her mother-in-law, Lucille Blunt; father-in-law, John L. Blunt Sr.; her bonus daughter, Demetria; and her brother-in-law, Richard.
