Ms. Mary Ellen Rivers (Thomas) Smith, 92 of Lanham, MD, formerly of Charleston, SC enterend eternal rest on Saturday, October 14, 2023. She leaves to cherish her memories her children: Charles F. Thomas (Indira N.), Jeffrey D. Thomas, Jennifer C. Thomas, and Belynda R. Gambrell (Donald); grandchildren: Aaron S. Pugh, II, Bryan L. Mayo, Catherine A. Thomas; Deborah (Devin) A. Thomas, Elianne M. Thomas, and Omrique B. Thomas; great-grandchild: Aaron S. Pugh, III, special cousin Gloria Rivers, and a host of relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband: Frank C. Smith and Rev. Charles F. Thomas, Sr.: parents: Mitchell and Addell Johnson Rivers; daughter: Sonya T. Mayo; siblings: Leola Rivers, Ruby R. Ancrum (Nelson C. Ancrum) and Gilbert Rivers (Vera Jean O'hara Rivers); and uncle: John O. Johnson.

She was a retired Educator.
