Linda Wellington Monroe was born, March 7, 1951 in Charleston, South Carolina to the late great Ms. Betty Wellington and raised by her aunt, Gloria Finley.
She matriculated through the Charleston County Public School system and graduated from Burke High School in 1969. Upon graduation, she enrolled in the Nursing School at the Medical University of South Carolina to become a LPN, ("licensed practical nurse"). For over forty years she was a trailblazer, receiving numerous accolades for her work in the medical field.
She was married to the late Mr. Larry Monroe. Their union was blessed with two children, Chinequa and Larry.
After forty years of dedicated service to her community, she became an avid traveler. Those of you who knew her, know that some of her favorite places to enjoy were: Italy, Canada, Hawaii and the Caribbean. She was an active member in her community where she served on the Downtown Community Organization and in Burke High School's Class of 1969 Reunion Committee. She was a dedicated member of St. John's Reformed Episcopal Church where she served as Director of the Youth Praise Dance Group, Assistant Class Leader, Youth Sunday School teacher, member of the Education Department and member of the Vestry Board.
When Linda wasn't traveling, or helping build her community, she enjoyed spending time with her family and close friends. She enjoyed planning family gatherings, playing cards, and listening and dancing to Southern–Soul.
Linda was a devoted mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, niece and friend.
