Mrs. Marilyn Dawson Brown

October 16, 1964 - February 5, 2022

Marilyn Yvette Dawson Brown was born in Charleston, South Carolina, October 16, 1964. Often referred to as the “Omega” of the 12 children born to the late Joseph and Bessie Dawson, Marilyn entered the loving arms of her Savior, Jesus Christ on February 5, 2022, at Roper -St Francis West Ashley Hospital after an extended illness. An inquisitive child, popular, friendly, and outgoing, her friends were many and enjoyed her entertainment. Marilyn graduated from C. A. Brown High School and studied at Claflin College and the College of Charleston. During her college years her love for drama led her to London, England to appear with the cast of the Charleston Youth Arts Company in the play, “Seize the Streets.” An overcomer and determined person, becoming legally blind did not stop her from pursuing a career working with children. After completing a career development program, Marilyn received a certificate from the S. C. Commission for the Blind in Braille Slate/Stylist Communication. Her stay at the Commission for the Blind in Columbia, SC allowed her to meet her life’s partner, Darryl Brown. On September 10, 1994, Marilyn and Darryl became husband and wife. From this union four children were born: MaKayla Olivia, two sons Darryl Lamont and Daniel Lamar, and Hailey Omega. Marilyn worked as a Teacher Assistant at James Simons Elementary, a Day Care Center Assistant at Evangel Christian School, First Assembly of God; Customer Service Representative and Dial America Representative. From birth to adulthood, Marilyn was very active in church, as an active Sunday School attendee and youth ministry at Greater Refuge Temple; singing in the choir, performing in the drama ministry and participating in the Young Adult ministry at Charleston First Assembly of God. She counts her greatest victory as being baptized in water receiving the gift of the Holy Spirit through the Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ. Marilyn leaves to mourn her passing, a loving and devoted husband , Darryl Lamont Brown, Sr.; two daughters: MaKayla Olivia Brown of Denmark, SC and Hailey Omega Brown of North Charleston; twin sons, Darryl Lamont Brown, Jr, of Grafenwhor, Germany, and Daniel Lamar Brown of North Charleston. Ten siblings and their spouses: Col. Joseph Dawson, Jr., Mrs. Sarah D. Williams, Dr. Barbara D. Dilligard, Ralph C. Dawson Esq., (Leslie) of New Rochelle, NY, Mr. Aaron Jose Dawson (Pearlene), Mr. Lloyd K. Dawson, Mrs. Hershula R. Davis (Davey), Mr. Derrick M. Dawson (Florence), Mr. Kevin W. Dawson (Juliet), and Mr. Troy C. Dawson (Kimberly) of Los Angeles; an aunt, Mrs. Mary Jenkins, of Irmo, S.
