Mrs. Wanda M. Smalls Price, 45, of Columbia, SC entered into eternal rest on Thursday, June 16, 2022. Life’s Reflections Wanda Michelle Price while a patient at Prisma Health Richland Memorial Hospital in Columbia, South Carolina went home to be with her Savior on Thursday, June 16, 2022. Wanda Michelle Smalls Price was born, September 16, 1976 in Charleston, South Carolina to Herbert Jackson and Elenora P. Smalls. She spent her early years in New York where she attended elementary school and started her joy of learning. Around the age of 10, the family moved back to Charleston. She attended Middle School and graduated from R.B. Stall High School. Enrolling in the JROTC in high school steered her in the path to join the Army. Wanda and Marcus met in the U.S. Army Reserve 941st Transportation Company in 1998 and later married on June 26, 2004, at St. Matthew Baptist Church in North Charleston, SC. In this union, Laila Amani Price was born. Wanda began her pursuit for higher education at The College of Charleston where she earned a B.S. Degree in Elementary Education. She later received her Master of Education Degree from the University of Phoenix and an Educational Specialist Degree from Arkansas State University. She was a recent Doctoral candidate at S.C. State University with hopes of graduating in December, 2022. Wanda started her teaching career in Richland School District #2 at Killian Elementary School where she taught Second and Fourth grade. She also taught at Catawba Trail Elementary School. After 10 years of teaching, she transferred to Richland School District #1 where she was promoted to Administrative Assistant at Meadowfield Elementary in 2018. She was appointed as Assistant Principal at Caughman Elementary School in 2019. She was recently selected to be Principal at Edward E. Taylor Elementary School. Wanda was passionate about educating and uplifting the lives of children. She started the Girl’s Leadership Academy called, Pearls for Elementary Girls in grades 3-5 at Killian Elementary School. During her career, Wanda received numerous accolades, namely: 2013-2014 Teacher of the Year, Distinguished Family Award, World Class Leader Award, Phenomenal Leader Award from the School District and Community leaders. Wanda enlisted in the United States Army in 1996 and completed her 8 years enlistment in the United States Army Reserve. She graduated from the U.S. Army Quarter Master School of Culinary Arts and later from the U.S. Army Truck Driving School. Wanda received two Army Commendation Medals, one Army Achievement Medal along with other awards and ribbons during her military career. Wanda pledged Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated at the College of Charleston, Lambda Omicron Chapter on April 15, 2004. She became a member of the Columbia, SC Alumnae Chapter in 2007. She served as Primary Advisor for Iota Chi Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. at the University of South Carolina and was a member of the South Atlantic Region Rehabilitation Committee, Membership Committee, Mentors/Collegiate Advisory, Chapter, Dionysian, Retreat, Membership, Nominating and Regional Conference Committee. Frances Price; father-in-law: David W. Price; sister-in-law: Davida L. Fagan (Tony); nieces and nephews: Michelle, Jasmine, Antonio, Jaylin, Kalyan, Melissa and Myles E.
