Mr. Herbert Simmons

Mr. Herbert Simmons, 93, of McClellanville, South Carolina entered into eternal rest on Friday, May 20, 2022. The family will celebrate his life with a Service on Saturday, May 28, 2022 - 11:00 A.M. at Greater Howard A.M.E. Church - 8592 Old Georgetown Road - McClellanville, SC 29458. The Interment will follow in the Church's Cemetery. There will be a Public Walk-Thru Viewing on Friday, May 27, 2022 - 4:00 P.M. - 6:00 P.M. at the Reverend Bryan McNeal, Sr. Memorial Chapel - 4129 Highway 17 North - Awendaw, SC. He was preceded in death by his wife: Mrs. Janie Manigault Simmons and mother: Ms. Lizzie Cash. He is survived by his children: Lottie Mae Simmons, Rosemary Washington (Arthur G. Washington, II), Carolyn Copemann (Dennis), Larry Simmons and Audrey Simmons; grandchildren: Warren Simmons, Maurice Simmons, Justin Simmons, James Copemann, Nicole Copemann, Herbert Copemann and Arthur Bradwell Washington, Jr.; siblings: Nellie Geathers and James Cash; and many other relatives and friends of the family. The Obituary A TIME TO BE BORN: Mr. Herbert Simmons, son of the late Lizzie Cash was born on July 1, 1928 in South Carolina (Charleston County). EDUCATION, CHRISTIANITY AND EMPLOYMENT: Herbert attended the public schools of Charleston County. At an early age he accepted Christ as his personal Savior and became a member of Greater Howard Chapel A.M.E. Church. He was employed at Detyen’s Shipyard. A TIME TO LOVE: On the January 24, 1949, Herbert was joined in holy matrimony to the former Janie Manigault. Their glorious union was blessed with six children: Carolyn, Larry, Herbert, Jr. (deceased), Audrey, Lottie Mae and Rosemary. ETERNAL LIFE: On the morning of Friday, May 20, 2022 at 12:30 a.m., the heavenly angels were sent to Herbert’s home and whispered softly in his ear that it was time to go home. Without a mumbling word, he obeyed the call. Herbert will be sadly missed by all who came in contact with him, both near and far. Preceding Herbert in death was his loving wife, Janie; a very special granddaughter: Miss Kalehmie Simmons; sisters: Beulah Mae Huger and Geneva Loewe; brothers: James Primus Cash and William Cash and devoted friend: Loretta White. In Herbert’s passing, he leaves to mourn his death, five devoted children: Carolyn (Dennis) Copemann of Orlando, Florida, Larry Simmons, Audrey Simmons and Lottie Mae Simmons, all of the Buckhall section of McClellanville and Rosemary (Arthur G., II) Washington of North Charleston, SC; a devoted grandson, Warren Simmons who took very good care of him; other grandchildren: James Copemann, Herbert Copemann, Nicole Copemann, Maurice Simmons, Justin Simmons and Arthur Bradwell Washington; great-grandchildren: Omarion Simmons, Jaylyn Gilliard, Jayvion Gilliard, Jaishawn Simmons, Maurice Simmons, Tania Simmons and Rachel Dupree; brother: James Cash of Buckhall; sister: Nellie Geathers of New York City; sisters-in-law: Nora Spain and Alfair Davis, both of New York City; five children he assisted in their upbringing: Chico Harrell, Rico Harrell, Sharon Cash, Frank Witherspoon, Jr. and Kimberlyn Witherspoon; devoted friends: Issac Singleton, Diane Weathers, Herman White and Curtis Powell; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
